This week the UK will be expecting a record-breaking heatwave of above 40 degrees centigrade in some parts of the country.

The figures below are using an electricity cost of 28p per kWh.
By our calculations, a Desk Fan using 40 watts of electricity would only cost 1p per hour to run, while a portable A/C unit requiring 800 watts would cost 24p an hour to run.
